The Magic Movement kicks off 2022 with a collaborative EP from Argentina’s Guuse and Berlin's Magic Jams, entitled ‘If It Were For Us’ and featuring remixes from Benjamin Fröhlich, The Oddness, and RSS Disco.

The Magic Movement was launched by German artist Noema in 2014 and has since established itself as one of the finest purveyors of psychedelia-infused Downtempo, Nu-Discfro, House, and Balearic. Here to open 2022 the imprint delivers a collaborative project between Guuse, a multi-instrumentalist, and composer based out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Magic Jams, the new Disco leaning project of label head Noema, an artist living between Berlin and Istanbul who’s been DJing, producing and collecting music since 1997.

The title track ‘If It Were For Us’ leads the release, a dreamlike journey fusing rich textures, psychedelic guitars, bubbling arpeggios, and ethereal vocals, resulting in the perfect soundtrack for a California coastline cruise in a droptop Cadillac. ‘I Am The Desert’ follows, shifting focus over to a woozy, desert rock feel via glistening guitars, crunchy drums, hypnotic vocals, and intricate synth work. The third and final original ‘The Things We Lost In The Fire’ follows next, laying down a more classic 4/4 drum groove while chuggy bass notes, plucked synths, and cinematic leads ebb and flow around the emotive vocal stylings.

Up first on remix duties is Melbourne, Australia’s The Oddness, who reworks ‘If If Were For Us’ with robust drums, snaking sub-bass tones, and jazzy keys while the originals arpeggio line, mesmeric vocals and expansive guitar licks wind within. Hamburg trio and Mireia Records founders RSS Disco deliver their ‘Scirocco Mix’ of ‘I Am The Desert’ next, opting for gritty, saturated guitars, loose, organic drums, and tripped-out fragments of the original’s vocals.

Lastly Permanent Vacation Benjamin Fröhlich’s ‘Balearic Dub Mix’ of ‘If It Were For Us’ rounds out the release, as the name would suggest delivering a sun-drenched interpretation fuelled by the originals airy synth textures, warm vocals while Fröhlich stamps his unique mark on things with the 80’s-tinged drums and intricately intertwined synth lines.
